Ah the marquee, harbinger of horror. How often have we been suckered into a darkened theater by just such a banner, promising gut-wrenching twists and blood-curdling terror? How often do we stumble out, 100 minutes later, grousing about how Leprechaun VII just didn't live up to our expectation?
No risk of disappointment today, if this serve is any indication. Notice the harmonic tone Jason has craftily adopted. Lower-left, Stanavision: --Stan, of course, being Jason's nickname. Center-bottom, Rustboy: Brian Taylor's short film. Towering on the far right, a Yeti swiped from my weblog. And, of course, dead center, Jim Coudal's dilapidated shack of a home. He had me over last year to watch the season finale of Two And A Half Men. Whatta dump. Couldn't hear a thing over the thumping from the attic.
Of course, that's how these things begin: one big happy group. Perhaps heading off to Camp Crystal Lake. Perhaps hiking into the woods near Burkittsville. Perhaps backpacking into a remote Slovakian city. And then, one by one, they wander off into the gloom, never to be seen again. We hear from them again, though ... as their screams echo through the night.
Will Brian's return be as conciliatory? The dread in the pit of my stomach says no.
