I come to in a dank, fluorescent-lit room. The smell is that of a sweaty, cramped studio in Brooklyn. My hands are restrained by fur-lined cuffs. I feel like I have been slapped repeatedly across the cheeks.

I crane my neck and see a woman—impossibly beautiful—leaning over me. I say: Escort me to the next level of consciousness, my sweet angel. I am ready. My time has come, and I await my Reward.

She smiles, and my heart swells with joy. Then she lifts a pair of sunglasses to her eyes. Her wicked laughter joins with my howls of madness, and I am once again plunged into a nightmare world of my own making.
