No, it's not enough that Greg filmed his opening, threw down his credentials as a buyer of design books, and wore a pilot's shirt to the set.
No, you'll see that he's also pulled off a shot-for-shot homage to the opening of Chris's last Layer Tennis match. The lighting may be different, but otherwise it's one fancy-ass designer pen to the Glass eye!
Not since Tarantino redid Hong Kong; not since Lucas ripped off Kurosawa; not since Scorcese wove a Steadicam through a kitchen and into the scenes of a thousand imitators has cinematic wink-wink-skewering been so faithfully executed!
So maybe I exagerrate. Blame it on the caffeine*. In any case, I'm excited for where this match goes next. Kahuna-sized kudos to Greg for a boffing starter.
*Last time I sat in the Layer Tennis booth, I made a marathon of Lil Kim's "Internet Loving" (around 50 listens in a single match) and had a Socratic argument with a beer bottle. Today I'm listening to "Rockabilly Hoodlums Vol. 4" and I'll be talking to cans of Diet Coke (two so far, on top of four cups of coffee). So! No less stupid, but typed at many more words per minute.
Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by Rosecrans Baldwin.
