In the second volley, Scott is still on the noir theme. Here we have a security monitor in a Tokyo station. Something bad is going to happen to the people on that train, and it makes me queasy because I always expect something bad to happen when I get on the subway or el.
I never give pick pockets a second thought ever--pick pockets live only in Dickens novels--until I get on a train and suddenly everybody looks like a nimble-fingered grifter to me. In certain kinds of films trains are either Godzilla food or petri dishes of vulnerability and we're definitely getting that vibe so far.
The looping effect is just surreal. I keep waiting for something different to happen every time it restarts. Plus the return of Dennis Hopper! "Pop quiz hotshot! Who just looped the video on the bus, sucker!"
Play by play commentary for this match is provided, as it happens, by Kevin Guilfoile.
