For a second it looks like Oeffinger’s out of ideas, resorting to quick & easy mograf-type tricks. But there’s a little more going on.
The whole affair is rather hypnotic. After some brief technical difficulties (OR subliminal footage of Henry Kissinger) we’re treated to some seductively-scored brain massage to assure us that everything will be alright (OR subliminal visuals promoting the three-cornered brand of military industrial complex) -
- and then the kid dies.
The robot that sneaks in to remove the body goes unnoticed (by the kid’s family, at least - now that we’re mixing our styles up more and more he looks a little out of place). So there’s our question: what is our role in society if we can be so easily distracted, by way of entertainment, from the pressing issues of our time?
Backstage, we've been discussing whether Jim Coudal is real at all; but the question just got spun on its head. What if Jim’s real, and we’re not? What if there is no spoon?
Themes for today: consumption, manipulation, the fabric of reality, and triangles.
Tune in tomorrow for more clarity. Or maybe not.
