In Brooklyn, NY, the temperature was 34 degrees this morning. A little chilly, I thought, but a good excuse to wear the sweater with a hood that my girlfriend gave me for my birthday. Something felt different. Somewhere, in the distance, a dog barked.
4600 miles away, Radu Pop (aka Noper) awoke to an overcast 27 degree day in Bucharest, where a 72 year old woman was considering the possibility of having another child. And one Aaron James Draplin, resplendent in his natural fur, was probably burning up at a positively tropical 45 in Portland, OR, where police say that a man found dead in his home was likely murdered. In other cities, far away, the Russian media ignored any rumors of Putin's impropriety that may have been mentioned in leaked cables.
There's a nice tension brewing backstage at Layer Tennis HQ. Watching these two heavyweights simmering with anticipation as they limber up in their respective corners of the ring is getting me all juiced for a great match. One thing is certain: their vastly different styles - darkness in spades in Noper's illustration work, versus Draplin's effortless mastery of vector and typography - can only yield unexpected results. And even as the blood is still drying from the Hubacek/Chimero battle at 11am, we'll be treated to another drama unfolding.
Think fast, men. This is a Quarterfinal.
